Ilu is an 11-year-old girl with multiple handicaps. She has remained small as a result of a congenital defect and depends entirely on others for care. As she is small and very light, carrying Ilu is not a physical burden for the carers. Ilu cannot sit independently and, therefore, always has to be carried or moved in a very old, worn-out pushchair.

She spends the rest of the day lying on a mat on the veranda or on a bed in the house. The family is very poor but the only request they made for a contribution to care was for the purchase of nappies (diapers). APA Foundation met this request and also gave a new pushchair so that Ilu can be transported more easily. With a view to more comfort in and around the house, a new mattress and plastic sheet (in connection with incontinence) have been donated.
